Being on the Killer Bees Robotics team has taught me so much. I’m sure most freshmen feel quite ignorant when they first start and I was no exception. It also didn’t help that I started about four weeks later due to other obligations at the time. My first day I felt like I was far behind compared to most of the other members, but that soon changed.
In the fall we were working on VEX which is a great way to start before the FRC season begins. I got to learn about tools and what they are used for; i.e. the different types of screws and how you classify them. One of the great things about the team is there aren’t any stupid questions. If you don’t know how to do something, then you just ask! Either a mentor or upperclassman will answer it for you happily. Believe me, I asked a lot of questions, so I would know.
Once build season started a few weeks ago things got way crazier. I split my time between the C.A.D room where we work on Chairman’s and in the Shop, where we obviously build the robot. In the C.A.D room things can get crazy. Today I’m only slightly more normal cause one of our members isn’t here today… that and Les Mis music is playing and we are all HUGE fans!!! I also like working in the shop because I get to learn more about the different tools and parts that are used in building a robot.
Robotics is AWESOME and I wouldn’t change my decision to join… ever. I have learned so much and met such great people, even though I have only been on the team for a couple months. So… I think that’s all I have to say… yep it is. If you made it this far, thanks for reading!
Until next time.
